Head gasket and helicoiling

Whilst the head of the CG was off so that one of the rocker cover bolt threads could be helicoiled I took the opportunity to replace the head gasket and the carb manifold gaskets. Stopping a persistent oil leak and curing the bike’s inability to idle properly.

Mudflap improvisation

Having ridden the honda for a few weeks on the wet and muddy roads of Norfolk I soon discovered that a favourite collecting point for mud is around the front of the swing-arm and the mounting points for the centre stand, an area which is also borderline impossible to clean without removing the back wheel and plastic mud catcher.

As prevention is better than cure I decided to make myself a kind of crude mudflap, formed from a strip of thick rubber which bolts onto the plastic mud catcher. I also used two of the mounting bolts to attach a flat brace to supplement honda’s inadequate “dowel” type lower mounting on the mud catcher.

Definitely not a thing of beauty, but if it proves successful I shall tidy it up at a later date.
